The project operates a total of 11 waste treatment and power generation plants in the UK, treating approximately 3.3 million tonnes of general waste per year and supplying around 240,000 kW of electricity (equivalent to the electricity consumption of about 750,000 UK households). Compared to environmentally burdensome landfill disposals, this project reduces greenhouse gas emissions and enables efficient energy recovery, contributing to the realization of a carbon-neutral, recycling-oriented society.
In January 2024, our company acquired a partial interest in Viridor Energy, one of the largest waste treatment and power generation companies in the UK, through a joint holding company established by the Development Bank of Japan and the UK infrastructure fund Equitix, marking our participation in this project.
