Kyuden International Invests in Battery Energy Storage Projects in the United States

Kyuden Group’s First BESS Project in the U.S.

Press release

Kyuden International Corporation (“Kyuden International”), a member of Kyuden Group, is pleased to announce its investment in two large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the United States, owned by Spearmint Energy (“Spearmint”), a leading energy company focused on developing, owning, operating, and optimizing BESS. The projects, each of which has an output of approximately 100 MW and a storage capacity of 200 MWh, are located in the state of Texas.

This investment marks the Kyuden Group’s first entry into BESS in the United States. As electricity demand increases and renewable energy production grows in the U.S., ensuring a stable power supply by adequately balancing power supply and demand has become a challenge. Through our investment in these projects, we aim to help store and supply renewable-energy sourced power efficiently while reducing CO₂ emissions by curbing thermal power generation. Furthermore, we expect to gain operational expertise, which we can leverage for power supply-demand balancing in Japan, where the introduction of renewable energy is accelerating.

The Kyuden Group will continue to utilize its advanced technological capabilities and extensive experience to further expand its business globally, while working towards the realization of the “Kyuden Group Carbon Neutral Vision 2050.”
